North Scotland’s largest live event venue, P&J Live, today announces the appointment of sustainability specialists, Positive Planet, as its Net Zero advisors to help enhance and accelerate the venue’s climate and sustainability journey.

Positive Planet will initially be calculating the venue’s carbon footprint across Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy) and Scope 3 carbon emissions (all indirect emissions) using the Government approved Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Carbon hotspots within the business will be pinpointed, allowing for the development of a carbon reduction plan. Positive Planet will also engage with all P&J Live staff to conduct carbon literacy training, teaching the basics of climate change science and to develop a better understanding of what changes individuals can make to help impact climate change.

Rob Wicks, Managing Director at P&J Live, said: “Through our central corporate social responsibility platform, ASM Global Acts, we are committed to driving sustainability and contributing to a healthier environment and planet. Our efforts are focused on meaningful actions and measurable results and Positive Planet are going to provide us with much of what we need on this vital journey. We are delighted to be working with them as we move to a carbon neutral future.

“P&J Live already has its own renewable energy centre on site, powered by local food and garden waste. This is digested in the adjacent anaerobic plant and the resulting hydrogen gas is harvested and used to power the energy centre, which in turn, heats, cools and powers the venue and the two onsite hotels. Elsewhere, we are committed to running a digital ticketing system and utilising digital screens for marketing instead of traditional poster-based materials.

“We’re also in the midst of working towards our ‘Greener Arena’ certification and, starting back in January 2024, we have become a champion for the ‘Guardians of Grub’ initiative, empowering our culinary and catering teams to take a stand against wasted food.

“These pillars have provided a strong foundation when it comes to driving sustainability, but naturally we want to do more, and Positive Planet are the ideal pairing for us to further drive our sustainability efforts and credentials.”

P&J Live is currently one of the most sustainable buildings of its kind in the UK, with its site designed to be a living environment and attract people and wildlife to the grounds. This includes 29,000 planted trees and shrubs and a 7km network of footpaths that serve the site and connecting surrounding areas.

Stephen Henry, Founding Partner at Positive Planet, said: “It’s great to have P&J Live on board with us to enhance their sustainability practices. Not only will this allow them to enhance their reputation with customers and stakeholders by showing their true commitment to environmental sustainability, but it will also see them lead by example in the events and entertainment sector.”
