Dermot Kennedy Releases New Music & Announces Biggest Ever UK Tour

NEW TRACK ‘INNOCENCE & SADNESS’ TAKEN FROM HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM SONDER OUT NOV 4TH - Listen Now

Acclaimed singer/songwriter DERMOT KENNEDY today shares the incredible new track ‘INNOCENCE AND SADNESS’, a song taken from his upcoming second album ‘SONDER’ out on Nov 4th via Island Records/Interscope. Pre-order 'Sonder' here.

‘Innocence and Sadness’, a beautiful piano ballad that’s as quiet and delicate as it is huge and powerful, is a perfect uplifting slice of the upcoming record, hitting you straight in the gut and leaving the listener reeling like only Dermot can. The track is accompanied by a video shot in April 2022 in New York; a perfect, straight up performance clip this take was actually used as the final version and appears on the album. It was the final song recorded for the record and is completely live.

On the track, Dermot commented; “It’s impossible for me to express how much this song means to me. I wrote this song on the piano in my parents’ house. “Innocence and sadness in the same night” means I cling to my childlike sense of wonder while learning how to face all the challenges of life. All in search of steady rhythm joy. Reliable and true joy.”

Also announced today is Dermot’s biggest ever UK tour to date, starting in Glasgow on March 31st 2023 before coming to Aberdeen’s P&J Live on April 1st and travelling across the UK before finishing at The O2 in London on April 14th, performing to over 120,000 fans. Tickets go on sale October 14th at 9am BST and are available here. This announcement comes just after Dermot performed to over 70,000 fans as the Friday headline act at Ireland’s Electric Picnic Festival, his biggest festival headline slot to date.

Dermot recently released the fantastic single ‘Kiss Me’; co-written by Dermot, Dan Smith (Bastille), KOZ (Kendrick Lamar,Dua Lipa) and Steve Mac (Pink, Ed Sheeran), ‘Kiss Me’ is pop perfection, marrying poignant lyrics about love’s intensity with an infectious, hook-laden melody that immediately draws the listener in. The same day he headlined his biggest ever festival with a performance to 70,000 people at Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland, alongside fellow headliners Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys.

The forthcoming new album is an exciting new chapter for the global star. Sonder is summarised as “the realisation that each random passer-by is living a life as vivid and complex as your own,” a term that has resonated deeply with Kennedy. More highlights from the album include the lead single 'Something to Someone' which has topped over 20 million streams and is currently charting at both Triple A and Hot AC Radio. “Dreamer” another album track from the album, is a softer, piano-lead cut. Nominated for the “Best International Male” BRIT Award in 2020, Dermot has now amassed nearly 4 billion streams across platforms and has the best-selling debut album in Ireland of this millennium, making him a platinum-selling artist in over 12 countries. His unique ability to unify and heal through his music has been apparent since the inception of his organic and meteoric rise. His poetic, compelling music has resonated with music lovers across the globe, with notables including Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Shawn Mendes, all calling themselves fans.

Louise Stewart, Interim Managing Director at P&J Live, said: “We’re really pleased to see P&J Live included in Dermot Kennedy’s Sonder tour. His contemporary sound, golden vocals and piercing lyrical content has already won over a sizeable fan following here in the North East of Scotland and we can’t wait to see what his show has in store.”
