Lauren Marcella, our Sales Researcher gives an insight working at P&J Live...
Born and bred Aberdonian and soon to be graduate from the Robert Gordon University in International Tourism Management, my education and career go hand in hand. I started at the AECC back in 2013 so have been able to see first-hand the journey and evolution of our new chapter P&J Live. I have been in the role as Sales Researcher coming up for 2 years and quite quickly realised I wasn’t just filling an events venue I was selling the destination on a global scale.
I am determined to overcome the perception that we are too far North, Grey and only famous for our seagulls. This could not be further from the truth, as much as we are proud of our oil and gas heritage Aberdeen is re-writing its story. I am not biased when I say Aberdeen is Scotland’s best kept secret and we need to start being loud and proud of our beautiful city.
Scotland is renowned for its culture, cuisine and do not forget the Castles - Aberdeen excels in all of these areas. A city by the sea and a vast amount of shire with 260 castles set in incredible landscapes, a Royal residence and miles of coastline bustling with wildlife, we offer a destination to be explored.
A unique conference experience especially for our international delegates with trips to Dunnottar Castle, a walk around Footdee or “Fittie” and the sampling of the local cuisine from The Bays fish and chips to the delights of the Silver Darling.
My research covers everything from International Association conferences, local award ceremonies to National medical events. To give you a flavour I am currently working on attracting events such as the Congress of the European Association for Cancer Research and the International Conference on Alzheimers & Parkinsons to showcase the world leading research currently being conducted by our local Universities and Institutes. A large portion of my week is spent researching conferences that include the words Endocrinology, Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum and Hemodialysis to name a few so my medical knowledge has certainly been broadened.
It is not just the likes of Michael Bublé we go after….
With help from the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and their newly launched website ABZolutely I am able to access tools to help promote the region and highlight the continued investment coming into the city. I work closely with VisitAberdeenshire our local convention bureau with spreading the word that Aberdeen is closer than you think. Did you know you can reach the city by air within 1 hour 20 minutes from any UK Airport and have direct flights from 17 National cities?
I am passionate about business tourism and the effect these events can have on a region both economically and culturally. Get ready Aberdeen, our new venue P&J Live is a game changer and I am #ABZolutely buzzing to see what is next in store. Watch this space.
