Scottish tennis fans will be able to cheer on Wimbledon semi-finalist and British Number One Cameron Norrie this December when he joins Andy and Jamie Murray as part of Team Scotland at Schroders Battle of the Brits – Scotland versus England tennis event in Aberdeen.
Norrie established himself as a huge fan favourite with a string of breathtaking performances at Wimbledon, where he reached the last four before pushing defending champion Novak Djokovic hard in Friday’s semi-finals.
Schroders Battle of the Brits – Scotland versus England was originally due to take place at the end of 2021 before being postponed due to COVID-19. It will now take place at Aberdeen’s P&J Live on December 21st and 22nd and is set to feature two line-ups of the UK’s best male players as they renew one of sport’s oldest rivalries.
As well as Norrie, two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is already committed to play in a home team headed up by Battle of the Brits Tournament Director Jamie Murray, himself a seven-time Grand Slam champion.
“It was great to see the whole country get behind Cam this Wimbledon,” said Jamie Murray. “He played so well and it really gave everyone a big lift. He’s a fantastic guy to have on your side and I’m sure Scottish tennis fans in particular will give him a massive welcome given how well he’s played at SW19.”
Norrie’s dad David is originally from Glasgow, though the family emigrated to South Africa and then New Zealand when Cameron was a child. “If you hear my dad talk, he’s got a filthy Scottish accent. It’s great, I love it,” Norrie said last year.
Schroders Battle of the Brits – Scotland versus England will be held at the P&J Live in Aberdeen on 21 and 22 December. Tickets are still available to purchase here.
